On Substack, someone I follow posted something that made me curious to check out, and when I did, it wasn’t at all what I expected and totally blew my mind!

In an amazing way, but also in an omg that is so creepy way plus in a does this spell the end of yet another domain thanks to AI - the podcast?!

The person I followed shared a Note (like Twitter) on Substack, saying how she'd just discovered this AI Tool (that turns out is created by Google), called Notebook LM.

They said they’d uploaded an article they’d written to the software and it had produced a podcast.

Now, I initially thought she just meant that an AI generated voice read her article outlook, and I thought, well that sort of thing has been around for a while now and it's not really OMG worthy.

The person had added the “podcast” to their original article so I clicked play out of curiosity and was surprised to hear two people- a woman and man - having a chat or discussion. And it actually sounded like a podcast!

Like a professional podcast of people talking back and forth. And it wasn’t just a word for word reading of her article! It wasa “deep dive” on the subject - according to Notebook LM when you upload some source material, I’ve learned.

So now I was really curious and had to try it on the article I’m going to be doing on this weekends podcast, all about synchronicity.

So I went to the website, clicked New Notebook, and you have the option to upload content in the form of a document, or a website URL.

And then you can choose the option of “deep dive conversation” - two hosts (the male and female) English only, along with choosing Questions based on your source, that the AI will answer in type, like a typical ChatGPT thing.

So, of course, I generated a podcast from my Synchronicity article, and this is where my mind was blown! Like, wow. I would not have been able to tell if it was computer or AI generated! Amazing.

But also a bit creepy.

And not only that, potentially damaging to people who put lots of time and effort into podcasting- like my husband…
